Leather/SM people comes in all political colours
Europride 2002 was more than a big party. Both in the parade and in speeches CSU was critisized and the Green Party was supported, also among the leather crowd.

Leather/SM people has always been an important part of the gay/lesbian movement.


The European gay leather confederation ECMC, with their 50 member clubs, has made several important sexual political decisions the last years:

  • The ECMC AGM in 1996 approved that "The Secretary of the ECMC can be a combined voice of its member clubs coordinating work for human rights concerning our community, the fellow ECMC clubs and their individual members."
  • The ECMC AGM in 1998 in their Constitution added that: "Racist and Nazi attitudes, manifestations and actions, as well as membership in corresponding anti-democratic organizations is not consistent with membership in the ECMC or in the individual ECMC-clubs."
  • The ECMC AGM in 2000 decided to support the European ICD-project "to work towards the removal of Fetishism and SM as psychiatric diagnoses from The International Classification of Diseases published by the World Health Organization (WHO)."

More than million people saw the five km long Europride parade 2002 in Cologne with it's 70.000 participants and almost 150 wagons.

1,4 Millionen Menschen haben insgesamt das Europride 2002 in Köln besucht. Eine Million Menschen sahen die Europride Parade am Sonntag 07.07.2002. 70.000 TeilnehmerInnen liefen oder fuhren mit in einem der fast 150 Wagen der fünf Kilometer langer Demonstrationszug.

Europride 2002: Under mottoet "Köln feirer mangfoldet - la oss gjøre Europa til et sted for oss alle" paraderte 70.000 deltagere på 148 flåter i et fem kilometer langt demonstrasjonstog søndag 7. juli. Europride dro 1,4 millioner tilreisende til Köln.
